Kim Wells
B.A., Lic. A., Dip. S.C.H.M., M.B.Ac.C., M.R.C.H.M., Cert Clinical (Nanjing).
Kim Wells has been practising acupuncture for over twenty years. Where appropriate he may prescribe Chineses herbal remedies, usually with acupuncture, but sometimes without. Kim Wells completed a three-year training in acupuncture in 1987 at The College of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and then in 1988 took a one year course in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) organised by the Journal of Chinese Medicine. In 1991, following a two year intensive training in Chinese Herbal Medicine, he obtained a diploma from the School of Chinese Herbal Medicine. In 1992, he completed a one month clinical training in herbal medicine at a hospital in Nanjing, China. He is a member of the British Acupuncture Council and of the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine. Both of these bodies ensure that members have adequate training and clinical experience and follow a strict code of professional ethics.
Kim trained with Mazim Al-Khafaji, who is widely recognised as one of the leading experts in the field of skin diseases. Part of Kim’s clinical training included time in the skin department of a Nanjing hospital.
Acupuncture can be very effective in helping to relieve the withdrawal symptoms experienced by those giving up tobacco. As a result of treatment, the craving and other symptoms such as irritability and agitation become less pronounced. However, these symptoms will still often be noticed, so a person's determination to succeed is still called for. This is why Kim Wells offers counselling and support during this process and advises people to prepare for giving up. As part of this preparation, he recommends reading ‘The Easy Way to Give Up Smoking’ by Alan Carr. Most people find this book enormously helpful both before and during the giving up process.
Kim also uses acupuncture to improve fertility and to support IVF treatment. One survey has shown that the chances of successful IVF can be improved by 40–60% using acupuncture. He can also help with various gynaecological problems and induction of labour and breech presentation.
