Healing Shiatsu
Jo Hofman
Shiatsu is a type of bodywork that through acupressure aims to stimulate the body back to a healthy balance. Both Shiatsu and Acupuncture have their roots in Ancient Chinese Medicine and work on energy channels called meridians to promote well-being. I work with the five elements, which emphasizes the importance of the emotional element as a factor in our physical health. The strength of Chinese medicine is its ability to find where symptoms fit within a range of complex patterns and to identify the best approach specifically for the individual
A session takes place on a Japanese mattress ( futon) on the floor and the client remains fully clothed. It incorporates deeply nourishing acupressure with gentle stretches, and releasing and relaxing techniques using the palms, fingers and thumbs.
The simple but powerful experience of Shiatsu awakens the body's own self-healing power by nourishing and rebalancing the energy and strengthening the immune system.
Healing shiatsu is a particular school of shiatsu that incorporates a deep healing approach and a particular emphasis on listening to the body.
I give Shiatsu during pregnancy to prepare for birth and I enjoy working with mothers and babies in order to rebalance and nourish after the effects of birth. Children and young people respond well to having Shiatsu as a support on both an emotional and physical level. (see children's clinic for more information)
